East Ruimveldt man fatally stabbed after “anti-man” insult escalates into scuffle
A 52-year-old East Ruimveldt, Georgetown man was stabbed to death after an “anti-man” insult spiralled into a scuffle on Wednesday night.
Dead is Shawn George. The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said that at about 17:00h, George was sitting on a bench in front of a grocery shop located at Vlissengen Square, East Ruimveldt, when the 34-year-old suspect drove up on his motorcycle and called him an “anti-man.”
The victim reportedly shouted back at the suspect, telling him to come and tell him that to his face. The suspect reportedly stopped, got off the motorcycle, and approached George, during which a scuffle ensued.
During the scuffle, the two men ended up in a drain, and it is alleged that the suspect whipped out a knife from the waist of his pants and dealt George four stab wounds: one to his left forearm and three to his left side abdomen.
Following the attack, the suspect fled the scene on his motorcycle, leaving George wounded in the drain. Despite being rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, the 52-year-old man succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
Law enforcement officials were promptly notified of the incident, and the crime scene was secured for investigation. Crime scene ranks recovered the murder weapon, as efforts to locate the suspect are ongoing.
The body of the 52-year-old man is at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting a post mortem examination.
