Education Dept investigating Senior male teacher accused of raping Form Three female student

The Regional Education Officer, Bhagmattie LaCruz has confirmed that the Teaching Service Commission has launched an investigation into an allegation of rape between a teacher and a student from the Vrymans Ervan Secondary School in New Amsterdam.

She made the revelation at the Regional Democratic Council’s monthly statutory meeting after it was raised at the meeting by APNU/ AFC councillor, Derrick Basdeo. He told the council that there is information circulating on social media implicating a senior male business teacher at the school and a third form female.

MTV News update understands that the student told her friends of the encounter and they began referring to the male teacher as a rapist. This continued for several days until other teachers at the school got wind of the information and launched an investigation.

The matter was then brought to the attention of the Department of Education and the Teaching Service Commission.

Regional Chairman, David Armgoan, while condemning the allegation noted that the matter is being investigated and asked that persons be responsible when making comments regarding the incident on social media to prevent the student from being affected.

Efforts to contact the regional commander to find out whether the matter was reported to the police, have so far proved futile.
