Elderly driver dies after allegedly crashing into lorry at Hillfoot

A 68-year-old man died on Wednesday after he allegedly failed to stop and veered into the path of a motor lorry at the junction of the Hillfoot Access Road, Soesdyke-Linden Highway.


Dead is Rudolph Caines of Hillfoot Village, Soesdyke-Linden Highway. Rudolph’s relative, Maxine Caines, was also injured in the accident.


Police said that Rudolph was driving motor car PGG 6390 north along the eastern side of Hillfoot Access Road when he allegedly failed to stop and veered into the path of motor lorry GAG 6169, which was heading west along the southern side of the road.


A collision occurred, and both vehicles were damaged, leaving both the driver and the occupants of the car with serious injuries.


The occupants of the car were placed in a passing vehicle and transported to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where Rudolph was pronounced dead on arrival.


Police said a breathalyser test was conducted on the driver of the lorry, and no trace of alcohol was detected in his system.
