Electrician, 70, shot twice while parking bus in his yard
Raymond Knipe, a 70-year-old electrician, is hospitalised after he was shot twice by a man at Lot 47 Norton Street, Lodge, on Saturday.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said that the incident occurred at about 21:15h, while Knipe was parking his motor bus, BNN 9253, in his yard.
According to Knipe, he noticed a male suspect dressed in all-black attire with a hoodie covering his head entered his yard, pointed a gun at him, and began to squeeze the trigger, but the gun did not fire.
Fearing for his life, Knipe ran toward the back of his house with the suspect in pursuit.
As Knipe tried to open the grill door to his apartment, the suspect discharged several rounds, hitting him and causing injuries. The assailant then fled the scene, entering a car with the registration number PAB 8252 and driving off in an eastern direction towards Mandela Avenue.
Public-spirited citizens quickly responded, transporting the injured Knipe to a city hospital. He is in stable condition, nursing two gunshot wounds.
Police processed the crime scene and recovered three 9mm spent shells. Despite their efforts, authorities have yet to locate the suspect or the getaway vehicle.
