Essequibo Coast labourer to stand trial for rape

Committed: Danford Thomas

Danford Thomas, called ‘Dennis,’ has been committed to stand trial in the High Court for rape.

Magistrate Tamieka Clarke made the committal in the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court.

Last January, Thomas, a 29-year-old labourer of Dartmouth, Essequibo Coast, Region Two, was slapped with the rape charge and was released on $300,000 bail. He was accused of committing the offence at Dartmouth on November 28, 2023.

However, when the case was called, Magistrate Clarke ruled that there was sufficient evidence before the court to commit the accused to stand trial at the next practicable session at the High Court at Suddie. He is still out on bail.
