A $10,000 Universal Healthcare Voucher for children is set to launch in 2025.

President Dr. Irfaan Ali disclosed this during his address to a special sitting of the National Assembly on Thursday.

This new initiative aims to finance a basic menu of health tests for children across Guyana, enabling early detection of warning signs associated with non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

During the announcement, President Ali highlighted the government’s ongoing commitment to improving public healthcare.

“We have been investing in improving the public healthcare system,” he stated.

The initiative is projected to benefit up to 500,000 children across the country, representing a whopping $5 billion investment in the health and well-being of Guyana’s younger population.

“This universal healthcare voucher will help us as we work to build a healthy, strong, and resilient population,” President Ali said.

Earlier this year, the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) Administration rolled out eye testing vouchers for school-aged children as well as pensioners, and to cover the cost of spectacles.
