ExxonMobil launches Youth Basketball Guyana hub in Tuschen
Youth Basketball Guyana launches its 9th hub in collaboration with ExxonMobil
ExxonMobil renewed its partnership with Youth Basketball Guyana in October 2021 to aid the non-government organisation in Community Basketball development.
As part of this trifold basketball initiative focused on supporting athletes during their teenage years, the two bodies have established a new basketball hub in Tuschen.
This hub aims to get young basketball players back on court, after they had been out of the sport for a significant period of time due to the onset of the covid-19 pandemic.
Utilizing sports as a vehicle for social transformation through the establishment of academies in several regions, this is the ninth hub established by youth basketball Guyana.
The academy structure was developed to ensure youths remain active in the sport while schools switched to an online format.
Prior to the closure of schools, Youth basketball Guyana has been active in a number of schools across Guyana, with the in school training culminating in the annual National school’s basketball festival.
The festival is widely regarded as the biggest national basketball championship for the country’s top school teams. which has not been played since July 2019.
Supporting the expansion of these working model hubs across Guyana is part of ExxonMobil Guyana’s strategic sponsorship aimed to empower youth through programmes that offer long term benefits.
