Father of two killed by children's mother after argument

A misunderstanding between a man and the mother of his two children turned deadly on New Year's day after the man was stabbed to the chest by the woman who accused him of assaulting her.

The dead man has been identified as 25 year old Jason Bownauth, a labourer of Lot 66 Middle Street Princetown, Corriverton Berbice.

Regional Commander, Shivpersaud Bachuss confirmed the incident and noted that a 25 year old female has been arrested and is assisting with the investigations.

Initial investigations revealed that the victim and the suspect were sharing a common law relationship and on the day in question, they were at the home of the suspect's mother partaking in New Year celebrations where the misunderstanding ensued with the couple which led to the victim allegedly slapping the suspect twice to her face.

MTV News Update was told that the suspect subsequently went home and shortly after the victim followed and they continued to argue in the building during when the victim reportedly slapped the victim again. The suspect became annoyed and armed herself with a knife and stabbed her children’s father to the left side chest before rushing to neighbours and informing them of what took place.

The victim was taken to the Skeldon Public Hospital by his sister, where he was treated by a doctor on duty and transferred to New Amsterdam Public Hospital. However, he died while receiving medical treatment.

Bownauth’s sister, Dacia Mitchell, told reporters that her brother was a humble individual who did not get into any misunderstanding with anyone. She said that she is still trying to come to grips with what took place.

Investigations are ongoing.
