Almost nine months after the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) went up in flames, the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) on Friday confirmed that the fire’s origin was electrical.

In a statement, the GFS said that “based on the fire pattern, evidence gathered, eyewitnesses, and scene examination, the fire was ruled as electrical in origin.”

On November 20, 2021, a fire ravaged the OPR building located at the Guyana Police Force (GPF) Headquarters Annex, Rabbit Walk, Eve Leary.

Reports are that the GFS was alerted of the fire at about 13:53h, and five fire tenders were deployed to the scene.

Upon arrival, firefighters met low water pressure at the hydrant in the vicinity, which resulted in them battling the blaze for hours.

The fire reportedly started in the western side of the building where ranks from Police Headquarters reside and then spread to the OPR building and then the construction department.
