First-ever ‘Guyana Digital School’ to revolutionise education nationwide

In a historic move to modernise the education system, President Dr. Irfaan Ali has announced the establishment of the first-ever ‘Guyana Digital School.

This school, according to the Head of State, aims to create a new and innovative learning environment for students nationwide.

President Ali emphasised that the Guyana Digital School will be designed to provide equal access to high-quality education, ensuring that every child across the country receives the same standard of teaching and learning materials, regardless of their location.

The digital school will be equipped with the entire curriculum from nursery to grade 12, with all textbooks and teaching materials available online.

The innovative platform will also harness the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance the learning process, including using AI-driven tutors to assist with assessments and generate personalised development reports for students.

The President outlined several features of the digital school, including online Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meetings, extracurricular activities, and classes focused on real-life skills such as entrepreneurship.

Specialised programmes will also be offered, including electronic nursing, accounting, and remedial education classes for adults in the evenings.

Critically, all current assessments, such as the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) and the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) exams, will be integrated into the platform.

“We are building a system that will not only serve the needs of our students but will also equip them with entrepreneurial skills, cultural understanding, and practical life skills,” President Ali explained during a special address to the 12th sitting of the National Assembly on Thursday.

President Ali also noted that the Guyana Digital School will be accessible to CARICOM citizens, furthering the government’s commitment to regional integration.

“Our prosperity must redound to the prosperity of the region,” President Ali said.

The President also highlighted the government's ongoing efforts to ensure that everyone is included in the digital transition.

Through partnerships like the ‘Get Save Online’ programme, the initiative will provide fundamental digital skills training to those who did not complete formal education.
