Former ambulance driver convicted of raping 16-year-old girl
Oswald Bedlow, a former ambulance driver who was attached to one of Guyana’s main public health institutions, has been convicted of raping a 16-year-old girl in 2022.
On trial before Justice Sandil Kissoon in the Demerara High Court, the offence against Bedlow stated that on December 22, 2022, he engaged in sexual penetration with a minor.
The child was 16 at the time of the penetration, and he was 35 years old. After the trial, the jury returned a unanimous guilty verdict.
Based on the information presented in court, the convicted rapist was a family friend of the child and would have known her for some time.
A probation report was ordered, along with psychiatric evaluations, and sentencing has been set for July 5, 2024.
State Counsel Marisa Edwards represented the prosecution, and the defence was attorney Ronald Bostwick.
