Former Best cop freed of murdering ‘Saga’

After six years on remand, former Police Corporal Derwin Eastman, who was accused of murdering businessman Godfrey Scipio, also called ‘Saga,’ has been freed of the charge.


Eastman, a former best cop, was freed after the Director of Public Prosecutions, Shalimar Ali-Hack, discontinued the murder charge against him.


MTV News Update understands that Ali-Hack took this position since there is insufficient evidence to proceed with the prosecution.


Eastman and former constable Jameson Williams were jointly charged with murdering the popular D’Urban Street businessman at Kitty during the course of a robbery on October 17, 2017.

However, Williams was freed after a Magistrate ruled that there was insufficient evidence.

Another man, Aubrey Bobb, called ‘Trigger-man,’ had confessed to the crime and was slapped with a life sentence.


Media reports are that Scipio, formerly of Lot ‘ZZ’ 22 D’Urban Street, Wortmanville, Georgetown, was shot once in his abdomen during a robbery.


He subsequently succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical attention at the Woodlands Hospital. He was relieved of his jewellery.
