Former GDF rank remanded over murder of Perseverance labourer

L-R: Jeremy Roach and Owen Young

A former rank of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), who is accused of stabbing 20-year-old Owen Young to the neck during an argument, was on Wednesday remanded to prison.

25-year-old Jeremy Roach was hauled before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman in the Diamond/Grove Magistrate’s Court and was not required to plead to the indictable charge.

The charge against Roach is that on August 13, 2022, at Sorrell Drive, Perseverance, East Bank Demerara (EBD), he murdered Young.

The Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) had reported that Young was stabbed during a heated argument with two identifiable males.

The 20-year-old collapsed and was taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The following day, the two men turned themselves into police in the presence of a lawyer, but only Roach was charged.
