GDF Corporal brutally stabs and chops fiancée after her child’s father visits his son

L-R: Philon Edwards and Leticia Reynolds

A 23-year-old woman is fighting for her life at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital after enduring a brutal attack allegedly at the hands of her fiancé, a Corporal in the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), following a domestic dispute.

The victim, Leticia Reynolds, was reportedly stabbed multiple times and chopped on her body during the incident, which occurred around 19:30h on Friday at her No. 30 Village, West Coast Berbice (WCB) home.

The alleged assailant, 26-year-old Philon Edwards, who resides at the same address, later surrendered to police.

According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the incident was triggered after Edwards learned that Reynolds’ former partner, the father of her five-year-old son, had visited their home earlier in the day.

Edwards reportedly confronted Reynolds upon his return around 17:50h, accusing her of allowing the visit in his absence.

While Reynolds confirmed the visit, she clarified that she had not interacted with her former partner.

This response reportedly enraged Edwards, who grabbed a kitchen knife and threatened Reynolds while instructing her son to leave the house. The young boy complied, leaving his mother alone with the armed suspect.

Police stated that Edwards then stabbed Reynolds multiple times, targeting her face, fingers, and abdomen. Desperate to escape, the 23-year-old woman attempted to flee, but Edwards escalated the violence by retrieving a cutlass from the kitchen.

He allegedly struck her on the neck, inflicting a severe wound that caused major blood loss.

Following the attack, Edwards fled the scene but later walked into the Weldaad Police Station, where he reportedly confessed to wounding Reynolds. He was immediately arrested and taken into custody.

Reynolds managed to seek help from a relative, who transported her to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

Edwards remains in police custody as the investigation continues.
