GECOM Commissioner Bibi Shadick dies
Government nominated Commissioner at the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), Bibi Safora Shadick, passed away on Saturday at the age of 77.
According to the Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG), she passed away at her East Street, Georgetown home at about 15:00h.
Her fellow party members took to social media to express condolences while recognising her contributions to Guyana’s development.
Minister of Education Priya Manickchand said, “Bibi Shadick was a beloved and revered educator known for teaching Mathematics well and changing lives long before she became a Lawyer, Minister and GECOM Commissioner. Many of you know her work as a National and public figure and in those roles she made many notable contributions. I am certain her efforts will live on in the many lives she touched. May her soul rest in eternal peace. Thanks Shado!”
Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs Anil Nandlall wrote on his Facebook page, “Goodbye […]you played your part in life, in the life of others and for your country, and you did it your unique way…fortunate am I to have met you and shall always be grateful for the much you have done for me.”
Shadick served as Human Services and Social Security Minister as well as the eighth Pro-Chancellor of the University of Guyana. She was also the Chairman of the Guyana National Broadcasting Authority (GNBA).
