Georgetown man charged with firearm offences granted $300,000 bail

Akeem Thompson, a 27-year-old resident of Lot 282 Lamaha Park, Georgetown, appeared in court, where he faced charges for multiple firearm-related offences.

 

Thompson was arrested on January 15, 2025 by police in connection with discharging a loaded firearm with intent, possession of a firearm without a licence and possession of ammunition.

 

The Court heard that Thompson discharged a firearm with intent to harm Fazaad Hameed, a 37-year-old businessman from Lusignan, East Coast Demerara (ECD).


The incident reportedly occurred on January 15 at the Lusignan Public Road. The defendant appeared before Senior Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court, where he pleaded not guilty to all three charges.

 

The court granted him bail totalling $300,000. The case has been adjourned to February 17, 2025.
