‘Goat man’ gets $100k on drug trafficking charge
A 60-year-old miner was on Monday released on $100,000 bail after being slapped with a drug trafficking charge.
Roger Simon, called ‘Goat man’ of Second Avenue Bartica, was hauled before Magistrate Crystal Lambert in the Bartica Magistrate’s Court and denied the charge.
The charge states that on September 18, 2022, at Third Avenue Bartica, he had 24 grams of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.
After listening to the case, Magistrate Lambert released the elderly man on $100,000. He will make another court appearance on October 21, 2022.
Reports are that Police acting on information received went to the location and observed Simon acting suspiciously.
He then began to escape between neighbouring yards and was apprehended by the Police. A search was conducted on his person, but nothing illegal was found.
A search was also conducted by the Police in the yard he ran through, and a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis was found next to an oxygen tank.
