GPF aiming to combat mental health challenges with yoga session
The Guyana Police Force and the India High Commissioner on Saturday hosted a yoga session for members of the Guyana Police Force seeking to provide mental health support.
Yoga is a spiritual discipline based on an extremely subtle science, which focuses on bringing harmony between mind and body.
Joining the participants was Indian High Commissioner Dr. K.J Srinavasa who in his brief remarks stressed that such exercises are necessary as "one of the most stressful jobs in the world is that of a police."
While not shifting away from the aim of the exercise, he also noted that yoga also "transcend the barrier to race and culture."
He then added that this exercise will not be the last as there are plans to advance talks to hold regular sessions.
Today’s yoga session was held in commemoration of International Day of Yoga, which is observed June 21.
On International Day of Yoga, the Indian High Commission will host a special session virtually which will be streamed on several communications platforms. Persons are urged to participate.
