Gunmen storm Kaieteur News, carting off with undisclosed sum of cash
In the wee hours of this morning, three gunmen stormed the Kaieteur News building on Saffon Street and carted off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The robbery occurred at about 01:15h and involved Noel Junior, a 63-year-old security guard, Wayne Little, a 20-year-old Graphic Designer, and Joshua Junior, a 35-year-old security guard.
Junior was robbed of $5000 in cash, while Little was robbed of a Blue Redmi cellular phone. Joshua was robbed of his Samsung S7 cellular phone.
Reports are that the three victims were at the business performing duties when the three suspects stopped in front of the building in a Spacio motorcar.
The suspects exited the car and entered the building through an eastern door at the bottom flat. The three Kaieteur News employees were held at gunpoint, and the bandits placed them in an office where they were instructed to lie on the floor.
One of the suspects remained with the victims, and the other two suspects proceeded to the upper flat of the building and straight to the Accounts Department.
The door was secured with a Yale padlock, which the suspects wrenched off. The lock on one of the desk drawers inside the Accounts Department was also broken off.
Under the desk had a small safe with an undisclosed amount of cash which the suspects took. The suspects spent about five minutes in the building, exited through the front door and escaped in the motor car in a southern direction.
Detectives viewed CCTV cameras attached to the building, but due to the face masks that the suspects wore, it was difficult to identify them. Investigations are in progress.
