Guyana 3x3 Basketball places 9th at 5th Islamic Solidarity Games
Guyana 3x3 Basketball Men’s National Team exited the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games in 9th place after finishing 3rd in group play.
Stanton Rose Jr., Nikkoloi Smith, Travis Belgrave, and Harold Adams made up the 3X3 Basketball team that represented Guyana at the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games in Konya, Turkey, earlier this week.
Guyana’s national team finished in 9th place after placing third in Group B with two wins and two losses. They scored a total of 67 points, averaging 16.8 points per game.
Team Guyana showed resilience in this shortened version of basketball against seasoned teams from the African and Asian continents. Guyana is one of two western countries competing in 3x3 basketball at these games.
In Game one, the team defeated Mauritania 18-17. In Game two, the team suffered a loss to Uganda, 15-18. In game 3, Guyana lost to a more seasoned Iranian 3x3 basketball team 21-12.
Harold Adams led all scores with 7 points, while Nikkoloi Smith and Stanton Rose Jr. contributed 3 points and 2 points, respectively.
In game 4, Guyana had an easy victory over the winless Maldives 22-12 to close out group play.
Team captain Stanton Rose Jr. led all scores with 7 points, while Harold Adams, Travis Belgrave, and Nikkoloi Smith contributed 5 points each.
The GABF 3x3 Coordinator, Junior Hercules, said, “Although we did not achieve our intended goal set before we arrived in Turkey, I’m still very proud of our effort, fight, and pride we played with for our country.”
This was the first time Guyana’s Basketball players were granted the opportunity to compete in the Islamic Solidarity Games and demonstrate their skills on the world stage.
