Guyana working aggressively to get catfish back on US market




Approximately after four years, Guyana is now looking to start back exporting catfish to the United States Market.


Guyana was banned after failing to adhere to the US Food and Safety Inspection Services (FSIS) standard.


Now, Minister of Agriculture Zulfikar Mustapha says his Ministry is working aggressively to get back the fish onto the US market.


The Agriculture Minister says thus far they have met most of the protocols established in the fisheries regulation which will soon be published in the official gazette.


Meanwhile ,the Environmental Protection Agency is also working with stakeholders to conduct tests on the waters where the catfishes are being harvested .The inspection manual is also completed.


President Dr. Irfaan Ali last year reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to getting back Gilbaka on the US market.
