“He was a jovial person” - father of bus driver killed in Good Hope accident
A 38-year-old minibus driver and a 38-year-old passenger were killed this afternoon following a horrific accident along the Good Hope Public Road, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
Dead is Andrew Albert, also known as ‘Dready Powers’ of Lamaha Park, Georgetown, and Annalisa Lakhan, of Lot 81 Gopie Street Buxton North, ECD.
According to the Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), Albert was driving minibus BAB 4746 on the northern carriageway when he attempted to overtake motor pick-up GNN 3048.
In so doing, a collision caused Albert to pull further to the left of the road, where he collided with a parked lorry bearing registration number GAC 6803.
“The driver of the minibus lost control and the same turned turtle forcing the lorry and a horse cart further East. The minibus also collided into the side rear of motor car PLL 5535,” the CCU noted.
Following the accident, several persons who were in the minibus received injuries and were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital to seek medical attention. The motor lorry driver is in custody, assisting with the investigation.
Speaking with the media at the accident scene, Albert’s father, Cyril Albert, described his son as a jovial person.
“He is a very jovial person. Everybody knows Andrew, Andrew,” Cyril said as tears started flowing from his eyes.
“I cannot do anything. At least I am here, and I can see the kind of accident, and I know his sister is not too pleased,” the grieving father remarked as he revealed that he was expected to travel out of town tomorrow for work purposes.
