A fire ravaged a wooden flat at Hillfoot, Sandpit, Soesdyke/Linden Highway, leaving a family of six homeless.
Twenty-nine-year-old Onika Jacobs, a single mother of five, is pleading with the public for assistance.
Speaking with MTV News Update on Friday, Jacobs said she left her eldest son home alone while she was away with her other children. The incident reportedly occurred around 23:00h.
According to the 29-year-old, the house does not have electricity, so they use candles and lamps for lighting.
She explained that her eldest son informed her that a curtain may have caught fire from the lamp, which resulted in the house being burnt down.
“Everything, everything, everything, all my documents, everything, just the clothes that we had on, that’s all we have,” Jacobs expressed.
Jacobs told MTV News Update that she does not know her next step.
“Up to now I can’t believe that the house burn down, my house burn down, up to now I can’t catch myself because I don’t know where to start from, how to start because it is not so much about me, but my children, I want to put them comfortable, and I can’t really know where to go,” the distressed woman said.
The single mother is pleading with the public for any assistance to help her get back on her feet. Anyone desirous of assisting this single-parent family can contact 693-4235.
