“I did it because he come around me funny” – Man in custody over murder of fellow miner
A 27-year-old miner was fatally stabbed early Friday morning at Kamarang Landing, Upper Mazaruni, in Region Seven.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said the victim, Laurex Henry, a miner from Imbaimadai, was stabbed at approximately 01:15h while leaving a bar in the company of his friend, Delon Dedd Jr.
According to the police report, Henry encountered a 40-year-old miner from Annai shortly after leaving the bar. During the encounter, Henry allegedly made racial remarks that offended the suspect.
In response, the suspect, who was armed with a knife, allegedly stabbed Henry in the abdomen.
Henry collapsed and was rushed to the Kamarang District Hospital. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries while being treated.
Upon examination, Police said that a single stab wound was observed on the miner’s lower left abdomen, with his intestines protruding.
The police quickly apprehended the suspect, who they claimed admitted to the crime, stating, “I did it because he come around me funny.” The suspect is in police custody as the investigation into the incident continues.
