“I’m hurt, I’m in shock” – Wife of man killed in Soesdyke-Linden Highway accident
The wife of 28-year-old Steven Dhanbeer, who was killed after being struck down by a motor lorry with a trailer on the Soesdyke, Linden Highway on Sunday, is still trying to come to grips with her husband’s sudden demise.
During a brief interview with MTV News Update, the dead man’s wife, Savita Budhoo, said she is still trying to wrap her head around the fact that her husband is no longer here.
This is also compounded by the fact that they would have celebrated their four-year wedding anniversary in about three weeks.
“I’m hurt, I’m in a shock, and my mind is not thinking,” a distraught Budhoo said. When asked about their 3-year-old daughter, Budhoo related that the “poor innocent child doesn’t know a thing.”
Following the accident, the Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) said that motor lorry GNN 1385, with trailer TJJ3014, was proceeding north along the western side of the Soesdyke, Linden Highway when the front portion collided with the pedestrian who ran across the road from west to east.
As a result of the collision, Dhanbeer fell onto the road’s surface and sustained injuries to his body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
However, an eyewitness told MTV News Update that Dhanbeer and three others stopped on the Public Road to urinate.
“They were all drunk. He came out the car, and his friend was holding him knowing he’s drunk, and he lose him, and he ran over the road,” the eyewitness recalled.
