'If my approach was a sign of guilt, Norton's reaction to SOPs was a bigger sign of guilt'-Jagdeo

Opposition Leader, Aubrey Norton during an emergency press conference on Monday accused Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo of taking bribes from Chinese businesses because his demeanour when the VICE News reporter asked him about his relationship with ‘Su’ was ‘indicative of some form of guilt.

But the Vice President refuted these claims from Norton and said that if his reaction was a form of guilt then his baffled reaction when asked by a local journalist about whether he was in possession of the Statement of Polls from the March 2020 elections was “a bigger sign of guilt.”

“When the reporters ask him about the SOPs then he ran and jump in the wrong vehicle that had to be even worse a sign of guilt. He got so confused he ran and jump in the wrong vehicle and then clutch his little bag and ran out back to another vehicle, that is a bigger sign of him being guilty,” Jagdeo joked at a press conference held on Wednesday at the Office of the President.

For context, the mentioned event above that Jagdeo was referring to was after Norton’s first consultative meeting with President Irfaan Ali last month.

Norton was confronted by reporters after a video surfaced days before the consultative meeting. In the video he was seen engaging the Vice President, where the topic of SOPs from the March 2020 elections came up.

Jagdeo has since denied the ‘bribery’ accusation made by VICE News and maintains that Guyana will not be caught up in China/US tension.
