Interdicted Policeman found guilty of sexual activity with girl, 14
An interdicted Policeman was convicted on one of three sexual offences against a 14-year-old girl on Monday afternoon.
After hours of deliberations in the Sexual Offences Court in Demerara, the 12-member jury found Wayde Padmore guilty of engaging in sexual activity with the girl.
He was unanimously acquitted of causing the child to watch him perform a sexual act. Regarding the rape of the 14year-old girl, he will face a retrial.
It is alleged that the 28-year-old man committed the acts between December 2019 and October 2020.
Notwithstanding, Justice Sandil Kissoon will sentence Padmore on November 25 after probation, and social impact reports will be presented on his behalf.
Padmore was represented by Attorney-at-Law Clyde Forde, while State Counsels Caressa Henry, Paneeta Persaud, and Cicelia Corbin presented the prosecution's case.
Media reports noted that the 28-year-old man was a regular visitor to the girl’s home as he was known to her family.
It was alleged that he raped the girl in December 2019, and in October 2020, he attempted to rape the girl for a second time. Though unsuccessful, he allegedly masturbated in her presence until he ejaculated.
