Jewellery shop owner on the run after alleged ganja discovery at Bartica Arcade
Police in Region Seven are searching for a jewellery shop owner who escaped after allegedly being caught retrieving a plastic bag suspected to contain cannabis from a garbage heap at the Bartica Arcade.
According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), at approximately 15:30h on Tuesday, two ranks were on foot patrol at the Bartica Arcade when one of the officers recognised Kenny Spencer, who operates a jewellery shop in the area.
The officer observed Spencer entering an alleyway and pulling a transparent plastic bag from a garbage heap.
The officer, suspecting that the bag contained cannabis, approached Spencer. Upon seeing the rank, Spencer immediately discarded the plastic bag and bolted from the scene, evading capture.
The officer retrieved the discarded bag and found it to contain 35 small ziplock packets of seeds, leaves, and stems suspected to be cannabis. The substance was taken to the Bartica Police Station, where it was weighed and found to total 74 grams.
Efforts are currently underway to apprehend Spencer, who remains at large.
