Police are investigating the shooting of a 17-year-old labourer from ‘B’ Field Sophia, Greater Georgetown, early Sunday morning.

The incident occurred around 02:30h on the ‘A’ Field Sophia Access Road and involved two masked men dressed in dark clothing on a black XR motorcycle.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim and another 17-year-old male, also from ‘B’ Field Sophia, were travelling south on a red Honda motorcycle with registration number CP 24 when they encountered the suspects approaching from the opposite direction.

The rider attempted to divert the approaching motorcycle, but moments later, the teenagers heard two loud explosions, believed to be gunshots.

The pillion rider felt a burning sensation in his left thigh and noticed he was bleeding.

The injured teenager was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was treated for a gunshot wound.

Law enforcement officers canvassed the area for surveillance cameras but found none. Several individuals in the vicinity were interviewed, but no actionable information has been obtained so far.
