Labourer, 19, drowns during outing at Splashmins Resort
Navin Ramnaught, a 19-year-old labourer of Number 1 Village, Berbice, reportedly drowned at Splashmins Resort during an outing with friends on Sunday.
According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), Ramnaught left home with two friends, aged 17 and 39, using public transportation to visit the popular resort.
Upon arrival, Ramnaught immediately proceeded to swim in the resort’s waters. Witnesses say that his friends last saw him jumping off the bridge’s railing into the water, after which he began to struggle to stay afloat.
Alarmed by his distress, Ramnaught’s friends called for help, and several public-spirited citizens quickly pulled him out of the water.
Despite multiple attempts to revive him using CPR, Ramnaught remained unresponsive. He was then rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre for urgent medical attention.
Upon arrival at the medical facility, Ramnaught was taken to the emergency room, where a doctor pronounced him dead on arrival. An examination of his body revealed no visible marks of violence.
