Labourer, 25, killed during scuffle at Enterprise

Trevoltor Mangal, a 25-year-old labourer, was reportedly stabbed to death by three men during a scuffle at Park Street, Enterprise, on Saturday night.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) reported that the incident occurred at about 19:00h.

The dead man’s mother, Nalanie Chand, a 61-year-old housewife of Gandhi Street, Enterprise, told investigators that her son left home around 17:00h, dressed in a cream-coloured jersey and short brown pants.

Witnesses report that Mangal entered a bar on Park Street at about 18:30h, purchased a beer, and sat outside. Shortly after, the three suspects, known frequent customers of the bar, arrived and started a game of pool.

The bartender told crime sleuths that he had overheard a heated argument between the 25-year-old labourer and one of the suspects over a motorcycle. The suspects then left the bar, heading west on Park Street, with Mangal following shortly after.

According to residents standing in front of PlayLand Restaurant, the three suspects were seen chasing Mangal from the southern direction. A scuffle ensued, but Mangal managed to escape and ran east through Forbes Street towards the bar, with the suspects in pursuit.

The labourer reached the bar and called out to the bartender before collapsing and losing consciousness. The suspects, upon seeing Mangal collapse, fled the scene.

A police mobile anti-crime patrol picked up the 25-year-old in an unconscious state. An examination revealed a single stab wound to his chest. He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body has been taken to the hospital’s mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination. Several witnesses have provided the police with the names of the suspects, but they remain at large.
