Labourer, 50, chopped and injured by security guard during drinking spree
Ronald Deen, a 50-year-old labourer is currently hospitalised at the Georgetown Public Hospital after he was chopped to his forehead during an argument on Friday at Eccles Industrial Site, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) reported that Deen of Water Street, Bagotstown, was chopped by a 56-year-old security guard of Herstelling around 17:40h at the Fishery in Eccles.
According to reports, Deen and the security guard are known to each other. On the evening in question, Deen was at the Fishery in Eccles, consuming alcohol with several other individuals.
Reports indicate that the security guard approached the group and asked them to leave so he could secure the building. Deen allegedly refused to comply and held onto the security guard’s leg.
Despite being asked to release the leg, Deen persisted, leading to a heated exchange between the two men.
During the altercation, the security guard reportedly drew a short cutlass from the waist of his left-side pants and struck Deen on the left side of his forehead.
Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) were immediately summoned, and Deen was transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital. He was admitted as a patient, and his condition is described as critical.
The police promptly arrested the suspect, and the weapon used in the attack was retrieved. He remains in custody as the investigation continues.
