Labourer, 64, hospitalised following shooting on Water Street

A shooting incident on Water Street, Georgetown, on Friday night, has left a 64-year-old labourer hospitalised.

The victim has been identified as Joseph Singh, who has no fixed place of abode. The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said the incident occurred at about 21:30h.

Singh told investigators he was proceeding north on Water Street near Muneshwers Limited when he noticed a grey Pitbull bus with a “trade plate.”

The bus carried two unidentified males, one of whom discharged several rounds in his direction. The assailants then fled the scene, driving off in a northern direction.

The 64-year-old labourer sustained a gunshot wound to his hand. He managed to make his way to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment.

Upon arriving at the scene, police officers found no spent shells. However, they noted the presence of several CCTV cameras in the vicinity. Detectives are currently reviewing the video footage as part of the ongoing investigation.
