Labourer denies lashing man who accused him of stealing his fake chain with steel pipe
Trevon Samuels, a 53-year-old labourer, has denied lashing a man who accused him of stealing his fake chain with a steel pipe.
The incident, which occurred on April 28, involved Samuels of No. 28 Village West Coast Berbice (WCB) and Jaipaul Narine.
During the hearing before Magistrate Teriq Mohamed in the Bartica Magistrate’s Court, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm. He was remanded to prison, and the case was adjourned to May 30, 2024.
The prosecution stated that the men are known to each other as they occupy the same space at Cool Breeze Stelling on First Avenue in Bartica.
It is alleged that Narine accused Samuels of stealing his fake gold chain. In response, the accused reportedly became enraged and attacked the complainant with the steel pipe, resulting in injuries to Narine’s head.
A report was made to the Police, and the victim was escorted to Bartica Regional Hospital, where he was treated by a doctor on duty and referred to Georgetown Public Hospital for further treatment.
