Last weekend games shifted to Sunday, Monday
Action in the MILO U18 Schools football tournament will take place on Sunday (July 3rd) and Monday (July 4th) according to organisers today.
The eight matches, which were scheduled for last weekend (June 25th and 26th) had to be postponed because of inclement weather.
According to the Petra Organisation, while matches might still have been possible on those previous dates, keeping the structural integrity of the playing surface was also taken into consideration.
Meanwhile the latest set of matches set for this Sunday will pit Carmel versus Christianburg Secondary from 12:30 hours while West Ruimveldt will take on Marian Academy from 14:00 hours. Uitvlugt and Cummings Lodge clash at 15:30 hours while North Ruimveldt and Canje Battle from 17:00 hours.
On Monday, Golden Grove gets the ball rolling against Annandale at 12:30 hours while Dolphin and Tucville get busy from 14:00 hours.
Tucville and Friendship battle from 15:30 hours with Lodge and President’s College bringing the curtain down on the weekend.
The tournament, which was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic normally takes a round robin phase; however, for this year only, the competition will feature a straight knockout format.
$300,000 will be awarded to the tournament’s winner which will go towards a school project.
Second to fourth will be awarded $200,000, $100,000 and $75,000 respectively, along with individual prizes for top performers.
