Local drag racers confident as over 100 competitors ready to compete this weekend



Local drag racers remain confident as they rev their engines to race off this weekend against visitors from Trinidad and Tobago and Suriname.


The Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club says approximately 108 racers have registered for the International Drag Race Meet on August 21 at the South Dakota Circuit.


Local drag racers are confident heading into this weekend’s races.





GMR&SC President Mahendra Boodhoo is prioritising safety and efficiency heading into the International meet against Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago this weekend.


“I’m sure you guys wanna show off what you do, how you do it. So we have to work on this together. We’ll be looking keenly for a couple of things in terms of safety.”


In a drivers’ meeting on Wednesday evening, he cautioned drivers on personal protective gear, and car safety, noting that these precautions will become increasingly important as the sport expands.
