“Ma, me a come back” – mother of welder recounts last words with son before his death
“Ma, me a come back,” were the final and hopeful words of 25-year-old Joshua Hardatt to his mother, Lalita Hardatt, on Tuesday evening.
Now, he is dead, and his mother is still grappling with the unfortunate turn of events.
Joshua, a welder of Lot 371 Bloomfield, Corentyne, Berbice, was found dead in his car on Wednesday morning at Letter Kenny Access Dam with a suspected stab wound to the neck. Villagers made the discovery at about 08:30h.
The welder’s grieving mother told reporters that her son left home on Tuesday evening and said to her that he would be back by 21:00h.
“His father left and [went] to work, and [I] call him steady on the phone, but the phone turned off,” the mother, who couldn’t hold back her tears, explained.
She added that the following day, her family received an overseas call informing them of Joshua’s demise. The family rushed to the location, and their fears were confirmed.
“My [son] don’t trouble nobody. You could ask anybody in Bloomfield,” a distraught Lalita stated, adding, “Sunday night, he went and drink, and he told me how [name withheld] wanted to knock him with a hammer and kill him.”
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) has not provided any details surrounding the incident, but an investigation has been launched.
