Man, 25, arrested for allegedly strangling Venezuelan sex worker

Crime sleuths have arrested a 25-year-old man who allegedly strangled a 26-year-old Venezuelan sex worker at Quartzstone Landing in Region Seven on Monday.

Dead is Miracarmen Rodrigues Serrano of Santa Elena De Vaire, Venezuela, and Quartzstone Backdam, Cuyuni River.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) reported that at about 02:00h on Monday, the Venezuelan woman, the suspect, and others were imbibing at a shop at Quartzstone Landing.

The suspect and Miracarmen subsequently left the shop and went to her room, where they reportedly agreed to have sex and she would be compensated.

However, they did not engage in sexual intercourse at that time but returned to the shop and continued to imbibe.

The shop’s 36-year-old owner told investigators that, at about 03:00h on Monday, he saw the suspect and Miracarmen leave the shop and enter her room.

He subsequently heard a noise coming from the room and assumed they were having sexual intercourse, so he went to bed.

A few minutes later, he heard Miracarmen’s room door open and someone leave. He got up to check and observed the deceased lying on the floor of the room, clad in a white top with her underwear on her left foot. He locked the door with her inside and went back to bed.

At about 07:30h, he checked on the woman again and observed she was in the same state he had left her and was unconscious. He alerted several persons and reported the matter to the police.

He later received information that the woman died while being transported to Quartzstone Waterfront. Later on Monday evening, ranks responded to the scene and arrested the suspect.

He was interviewed, and he related that after he and Miracarmen had sexual intercourse for the first time, he requested to again. The woman told him he had to pay again, and he tried to have sexual intercourse with her forcefully.

She retaliated and bit him several times on his body, which caused him to “choke” her, forcefully have sexual intercourse with her, and then leave her lying unconscious on the floor.

The suspect is in police custody, assisting with the ongoing investigation.
