Man, 49, killed in front of popular East Bank bar
Sherwin Hamilton, a 49-year-old self-employed man, was killed on Saturday in front of the Boat House Sports Bar at Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara (EBD), following an argument with another man.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) reported that the security guard attached to the bar told investigators that the altercation began around 02:30h when Hamilton and the suspect engaged in a heated exchange of words inside the establishment.
The security guard intervened and removed the suspect from the premises, identifying him as the aggressor.
According to the security guard, at about 03:00h, the DJ announced the end of the night, prompting patrons to exit the bar through the western door facing the public road.
As Hamilton exited, he was confronted by the suspect and another male. The suspect then shot Hamilton in the left upper thigh before fleeing the scene on an XR motorcycle.
Hamilton collapsed, and a 25-year-old nurse who was present at the bar provided first aid by tying a vest around his injured leg.
Hamilton was subsequently transported by his wife, Amanda Persaud, to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Investigators processed the crime scene and discovered a 9mm spent shell approximately 20 feet from the bar’s western entrance. The police said they are searching for the suspect as the investigation continues.
