Man accused of burning wife with hot porridge caught in Berbice

24-year-old Ajay Persaud, who is accused of burning his wife with hot porridge, was on Saturday arrested at Springlands, Corriverton, Berbice, following an intelligence-led operation by Police.

Persaud of La Parfaite Harmony, West Bank Demerara (WBD), was wanted by Police for questioning relating to the attempted murder of Analee Gonsalves, which occurred on August 23, 2022, in Region Three.

It is alleged that on the day in question, the 24-year-old man attacked the woman and threw hot porridge on her, causing burns to her body.

Initially, the woman’s mother was told that the pot of porridge had exploded, resulting in burns on her body. However, she was told a different story when she visited her injured daughter at the hospital.

In fact, family members had revealed that the young woman had been suffering months of physical abuse at the hands of the suspect.

Persaud, who was arrested at Sukhpaul Gas Station in Corriverton, was taken into custody at the Springlands Police Station as the investigation continues.
