Man accused of fatal shooting of taxi driver at Bourda Market remanded
Fitzroy Holligan, 50, also known as ‘Fishy,’ of Lot 34 Queen Street, Cummingsburg, Georgetown, has been charged with the murder of taxi driver Eon Holder, also known as ‘Rasta man.’
The incident occurred on February 24, 2024, during an argument on Alexander Street, Georgetown, near Bourda Market.
Holligan appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, where the charge was read to him. He was denied bail and remanded to prison. The case was adjourned to June 20, 2024.
According to a police report, at approximately 04:40h on the day of the incident, Holder was working his taxi, PRR 271, when he was hired by a 50-year-old businessman from Queenstown, Georgetown, to go to Bourda Market to purchase vegetables.
Upon arrival, the businessman exited the car to enter the market, leaving Holder searching for a parking spot. About five minutes later, the businessman reported hearing a loud explosion.
He said he turned back and saw Holder lying on the ground about 15 feet from his car and observed two men, one armed with a handgun, fleeing the scene. Medical professionals declared Holder dead at the scene after he sustained a gunshot wound to the right side of his face.
Eyewitnesses had told police that the argument arose over Holder’s parking, which was blocking other vehicles. One of the suspects reportedly drew a handgun and shot Holder during the confrontation.
