Man acquitted of wife’s murder now charged with murdering Venezuelan woman
A Prospect, East Bank Demerara (EBD) man who was acquitted of his wife’s murder in 2012, has found himself back in court facing a charge of murder of a Venezuelan woman.
Haslyn Hodge, 47, was on Tuesday hauled before Magistrate Judy Latchman in the Diamond Magistrate’s Court and was not required to plead to the indictable offence.
He was remanded to prison and is scheduled to reappear in court on August 2, 2024.
The body of 23-year-old Venezuelan national Evelyn Alves was found dumped on July 07, 2024, by the roadside leading to the New Diamond Development Housing Scheme.
She had been shot in the head, and detectives found a 9mm spent shell about 10 feet from her body, along with a cell phone.
Hodge was arrested days later and identified as the main suspect. In 2012, High Court Judge Justice Navindra Singh had acquitted Hodge of his wife Tamasha Riddle’s murder due to insufficient evidence. Riddle had allegedly been stifled to death.
