Man charged for threatening, assaulting, and wounding ex-lover

Charged: Esan Lawrence

Esan Lawrence, who is accused of threatening, assaulting, and wounding his ex-partner, was granted $45,000 bail or three months imprisonment on Tuesday.

Lawrence was hauled before Faith McGusty in the Vreed-En-Hoop Magistrate’s Court and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The charge against Lawrence alleged that on May 5, 2022, at Jetty, Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara (WCD), he used threatening language against Sharon Codrington.

The second charge states that on the same day at the same location, he unlawfully and maliciously assaulted Codrington so as to cause her actual bodily harm.

The third charge alleged that on the same day at the same location, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Codrington with intent to maim, disfigure, disable, or cause grievous bodily harm.

After the charges were read and the facts were presented in court, the accused was granted $45,000 bail or three months imprisonment, and the case was adjourned to September 13.

During an interview with MTV News Update, Codrington stated that she is living in fear as Lawrence would harass and threaten to kill her daily because she is in another relationship.

“Living in fear and just I come home, I telling myself I know that one of these days he go kill me,” the woman related while noting that she was able to acquire a restraining order against him, but still believes he will breach it and continue to harass her and her new gentleman friend.

The woman also offered surveillance footage of a recent attack by Lawrence at her home.

However, the attacker's identity in the footage seen by MTV News Update could not be immediately determined because of the quality of the video.

Lawrence is no stranger to law enforcement as he would have charged with murder and robbery under arms.
