A man was today found not guilty of raping and engaging in sexual activity with a 12-year-old girl by Justice Priya Sewnarine-Beharry in the Demerara Sexual Offences Court.
Wedson Thomas, called “Dollius,” was accused of engaging in sexual penetration with a child of 12 years between March 1-31, 2019.
It was further alleged that on March 21, 2019, he engaged in sexual activity with the underage girl by kissing her on her lips.
The prosecution led by State Counsel Nafeeza Baig in association with State Counsel Muntaz Ali contended that at around 17:00h on March 21, 2019, the girl went to a shop to make a purchase.
The court heard that while there, she saw Thomas, who, holding onto her hands, pushed her into the shop’s counter and kissed her on the lips.
It was reported that another time during March 2019, the minor was at home alone when she heard someone whistling.
She went into the backyard, where she saw Thomas, and the two began conversing. It was alleged that Thomas asked “for sex,” and the minor refused.
The prosecution informed the court that Thomas held onto her hands, pulled down her pants and underwear, and raped her. Attorney-at-law Madan Kissoon represented the accused.
