Man in custody for assaulting businesswoman who rebuffed his advances

Police in Region Seven have arrested a man who allegedly assaulted a 51-year-old businesswoman who rejected his advances.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said the incident occurred Thursday at Issano Landing, Middle Mazaruni.

Reports are that the victim was standing outside of a camp when the suspect approached her and made advances, which she rejected.

This reportedly annoyed the suspect, who then assaulted the victim, causing her to receive lacerations to her face and body.

A report was made to the police, and the victim was escorted to the Issano Health Centre, where she was seen by a doctor. She was later referred to the Bartica Hospital for further medical treatment.

The police visited the scene, and the suspect was arrested and is in custody. Investigations are ongoing.
