Man pleads guilty to killing foster son in 2022, to be sentenced next month

Nigel Abrahams

Nigel Abrahams has admitted to unlawfully killing his 17-year-old foster son, Daniel Wilson, during a drinking spree in 2022 at Black Water, North West District, Region Seven.

Initially indicted for murder, Abrahams opted to plead guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter.

Presided over by Justice Sandil Kissoon in the High Court, the court heard that Abrahams, Wilson, and the teen’s cousin, 19-year-old Ron Moonsammy, had been drinking together between April 17 and 18, 2022, when a heated argument erupted.

The confrontation quickly turned violent, with Abrahams stabbing Wilson. As Moonsammy tried to intervene, Abrahams attacked him as well, stabbing him in the chest.

While Moonsammy survived, Wilson succumbed to his injuries. A post-mortem revealed that Wilson's death was caused by a stab wound that punctured his heart.

Abrahams had previously pleaded guilty to the attempted murder of Moonsammy and was sentenced by Justice Peter Hugh earlier this month.

He is set to be sentenced for manslaughter on November 14, 2024. State attorneys Alvaro Ramoutar and Delon Fraser led the prosecution's case.
