Man remanded, co-accused on bail over gun, ammo charges

A man and woman were on Wednesday charged with the illegal possession of a firearm and matching ammunition.
25-year-old Terry Andrew Joseph and Shabanam Pitambar were hauled before Magistrate Rhondel Weever in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, and both pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The charge against the duo alleged that on June 4, 2022, at the Square of the Revolution, Homestretch Avenue, they had a Lorcin .380 Semi-Automatic Pistol in their possession when they were not the holder of a firearm licence.
It was further alleged that on the same day at the same location, they had one round of ammunition without being the holder of a firearm licence.
Magistrate Weever released Pitambar on $100,000 bail and remanded Joseph to prison. The matter was adjourned to July 6, 2022.
The duo was arrested by ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) following an operation at the Square of the Revolution, Homestretch Avenue. The two were intercepted in a motor car, and a search was carried out, which unearthed the firearm and matching ammunition.
