Man wanted by Interpol charged with conspiracy to traffic drugs
Vitesh Guptar, the 59-year-old Netherlands national who is wanted by the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol), has been charged with conspiracy to traffic drugs internationally and was remanded to prison.
Guptar of Lot 93 Duke Street, Kingston, Georgetown, was hauled before Magistrate Faith McGusty in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The prosecution plans to present the Request to Proceed from Italy regarding Guptar, who has been on Interpol’s red list since 2019 and is wanted for his alleged association with a mafia organisation.
Premised on this, the Netherlands national was remanded to prison until March 28, 2024.
Guptar, who Police said is a businessman, was arrested at a popular city spot on Sunday.
He is wanted by Interpol for aggravated criminal conspiracy aimed to commit international drug trafficking.
