Man wanted for ex-girlfriend’s abduction found hiding under bed

Ronald Balgobin, the 31-year-old taxi driver who was wanted for questioning into the alleged abduction of his ex-girlfriend, was nabbed hiding under a bed at Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara (EBD) on Friday.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) reported that at about 19:00h on Friday, Police ranks from the Timehri Police Station, acting on information received, went to Lot 1 Land of Canaan, where a search was conducted, and Balgobin was caught.

Two other individuals who were at the address were arrested for the offence of harbouring a wanted person.

Last week, the Police Force issued a wanted bulletin for Balgobin of Linden after the victim, Basmattie Bassant, 37, detailed in a Facebook post about the abduction along with how she has been living in constant fear.

According to her, the incident occurred on October 27, 2024, and the suspect was released on bail after being detained.

“During the relationship, I was forced into a lot of things, and I was physically abused, and I was living as a prisoner, can’t speak to anyone, can’t go anywhere,” she said in a Facebook post.
