Man who stabbed wife to death found in decomposed state at Enmore backlands
Vijaimal Raj, who was wanted over the murder of his wife, was today found in an advanced stage of decomposition at the Enmore, East Coast Demerara (ECD) backlands.
According to the Guyana Police Force’s (GPF) Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), the discovery was made today at about 12:30h by a cattle farmer of Cummings Lodge, ECD, who went to graze his cattle at Enmore backlands.
The cattle farmer to detectives that while at the location, he observed a mosquito net in the bush, and upon checking, he saw the partially decomposed body of a male.
“He was accompanied by an Inspector and a party of Policemen to the area where, on arrival, the body of the deceased was in an advanced stage of decomposition, clad in a red jersey, blue short pants, and black cap and lying under a light blue mosquito netting on some cloth and salt bags,” a release from the CCU stated.
Two bottles of insecticide were seen next to the body, and it was later identified as Vijaimal by his son, Besham Raj.
The bloodied body of Savitrie Raj, 57, a mother of three of Lot 563 Foulis, ECD, was discovered lying on her bed around 01.00hrs on March 12 with wounds to the neck and face.
After the incident, Raj, a fisherman, was seen jumping through the window by his son. The woman had reportedly sought help many times to escape from the abuse she faced at the hands of Raj.
